In soft conditions, at least in the hands of average golfers, the low bounce can become a bit of a liability.Īs much as I love the T, when the course is wet, it comes out of the bag. It’s the most versatile wedge in the Vokey lineup which could explain why it’s so popular on the PGA TOUR.In my experience, two things are true about the T grind: It’s also well-suited to players with neutral to steep attack angles as it’s not going to be as prone to digging as the T grind. When things are soft, whether we’re talking about the whole golf course or the sand in the bunkers, the V grind might be the better option. With that in mind, the Vokey WedgeWorks V grind offers the same heel, toe and trailing-edge relief of the T grind in a higher-bounce package. The knock on the T is that it sometimes wants to dig, especially when the turf is soft. While I’m not a shallow attack guy, it’s why I love the T grind. It’s an outstanding option for tight lies, golfers who like to manipulate the face and shallow attack angles. Also of note, the bounce angle is more forwardly placed. So, to simplify things a bit, you can think of the Vokey WedgeWorks V grind as a higher-bounce take on the T grind.Īs you might be aware, the T grind is a low-bounce offering, the defining characteristics of which are aggressive relief in the heel, toe and trailing edge. Subtle differences, the stuff that often comes across as minutiae, are part of what makes golf wedges so interesting but it’s also not lost on me that it can be overwhelming for golfers to sort through. Toss in two more by way of the 58- and 60-degree low-bounce K grind options that are always available through WedgeWorks and it’s apparent that the available shelf space at retail can’t support all the nuance in the wedge space. I suppose it would be nice if every Vokey grind were available all the time but the retail catalog already includes seven grinds, nine lofts and 25 possible loft/grind combinations. It’s one of several occasional WedgeWorks offerings that’s generally considered a bit too niche for the Vokey retail lineup. I expect most of you won’t be familiar with the V grind. Both are listed as 10-degree bounce offerings.Īccording to our recollection, this is the first time the V grind has been offered since 2016. For 2023, Vokey appears to be using its limited-edition WedgeWorks platform to explore the tail end of the wedge grind alphabet.Īs you may recall, the Masters was the occasion that warranted the release of the aggressively lofted 64-degree W grind.Īs we creep towards summer, Vokey is following the W with a high-bounce lob wedge option: the 58- and 60-degree V grind.
